FAQ
Question 1. What is permanent makeup?
Permanent makeup, also referred to as micropigmentation, cosmetic tattooing, Softap, microblading, is a procedure of applying micro insertions of pigment into the dermal layer of the skin. It is a non-surgical, completely disposable procedure. The most common applications involve the eyebrows, lips and eyeliner. Many women who have had these procedures find that they wear much less makeup than before, while others continue to apply regular makeup for a more finished look and enjoy the color the permanent cosmetics add to their facial features, especially when no makeup is applied at all.
Question 2. Why do this?
Everyone wants to look prettier and the best they can all day and all night long. Think how convenient it would be to enjoy perfectly shaped brows, eyelashes that appear thicker and fuller and sparkle with definition, and lips that are beautifully contoured with sexy, soft color.
Question 3. Will it hurt? Is it safe? Will it look natural?
These are the most common concerns voiced by women considering permanent makeup. Flo screens all of her clients to ensure that permanent makeup is right for them. She takes a complete medical history and tests for skin tone to mix the perfect, custom-blend for each of her clients. Because of the topical anesthetics that Flo uses and her gentle technique, many of her clients fall asleep during the procedure. Most clients describe the sensation as “tickling” or “pinching” due to the soft vibration of the machine or etching sound from the hand method that Flo uses for eyeliner. Clients often say that “tweezing hurts more” than the actual permanent brow procedure. “Single use only” applicator cartridges for your complete safety and peace of mind are always used for each client and then disposed of according to OSHA requirements.
Flo also recommends for her clients soft, naturally-shaped brows versus the extremely dark, very large brows that are currently the rage or in style. She prefers that her clients leave after the procedure looking a little ”light” in color rather than too dark. Also because of her excellent after care recommendations, there is hardly any, or at the very least, minimal scabbing, flaking or need to hide from others.
Question 4. How is the procedure performed?
As an example as to how a brow procedure is performed; the area is cleansed and a very effective topical anesthetic is applied for your comfort. Flo tests various colors to complement your skin tone and then custom-blends each formulation specifically for you, marking the exact color combination in your client chart. Then, she draws on your brows with a brow pencil to the shape that you desire, always giving a “lift” to the ends of the brow to ensure a youthful appearance. Before any color is tattooed into your skin, you approve the color and shape. Then, via a very delicate hand piece, the pigment is placed gently throughout the dermal layer of the skin resulting in very natural, beautifully enhanced brows. A liquid anesthetic is also reapplied continuously throughout the procedure so that there is minimal discomfort.
Question 5. What will I look like immediately following the procedure?
There will be slight swelling and redness of the skin, which will quickly subside. Your eyes may feel a little sleepy after the eyeliner (due to the anesthetic) but it won’t interfere with your driving ability. Your brows may appear a tad darker at the end of the procedure (because of the redness of the skin underneath). Your brows will then lose approximately 30-50 percent of their color in the first week. Your lips will look a little brighter and will be chapped during the healing process but will heal beautifully in the next week or two. While your procedural area is healing, it must go through phases before you will experience your final results. The procedural area may peel/flake a bit, then fade and then heal. You will want to avoid direct sun exposure to the treated area and maintain vigilant after care to ensure the best results. (Complete after care instructions and healing ointment provided at end of treatment…along with chocolate!)
Question 6. How long will it last?
Permanent makeup can last for many years but many factors contribute to longevity; skin type, sun exposure and lifestyle, how well you take care of your permanent makeup and if you use topical skincare products that could alter or change your skin. To maintain beautiful results, Flo recommends a color boost treatment (or touch up) every 12 to 18 months.
